• Something that’s been highly requested is the ability to send invoices to multiple recipients. We heard you and are thrilled to announce this is now possible in Ember 🥳 Whether you’re creating an invoice or sending a reminder, you can now easily send them to multiple recipients.
• Want to add notes to a transaction? Now you can! We’ve added an optional description field to the transaction details, so you can easily capture any extra information you need.

Improvements ✨

• Our new Money Owed reports now have a CSV download option, allowing you to export and manipulate your data in any which you like. Want to create a fancy cashflow forecast using your Money Owed data? Go for it! 🤓

Fixes 🔧

• We’ve collapsed navigation for the Money Business Owes report and Money Owed to Business report into a single Money Owed area within Reports.

Improvements ✨

• Cashflow is king 🤴, as the old saying goes, so knowing who you owe money to and who owes money to you is critical to keeping cash in the bank. With our revamped Money Owed reports, we’ve made it easier to understand both, as you can now access them on a single page across separate tabs. Watch this space for further updates.

Fixes 🔧

• We’ve added a fix to ensure no invoices are left out from the category selection modal when categorising your transactions.
• As you know, we’re 🌅Building a Better Ember, but this led to navigation issues between our “new” and “old” screens, which annoyingly resulted in redirecting you to the dashboard. No more! Navigate freely around the app in the knowledge your clicks will take you where you want. 😎.
• We fixed the issues with scrolling through Transactions on mobile, so you can keep reviewing your transactions on the go.
• We’ve updated some guidance we had listed under the Capital Allowances drill through within the Corporation Tax report, better explaining how we treat Fixed Assets in our calculations. 🧮

Improvements ✨

• The new Invoices workflow is out 🚀! This is the first step towards building a better and more efficient way for you to manage invoices. We have lots of other functionality based on your feedback that we’re looking to add in the future releases too, so stay tuned!
• You asked for it - you can now search transactions by amount ✨ Stay tuned as more search criteria to be added.

Fixes 🔧

• Refunded and reversed Monzo transactions that were “real” but were showing up as pending, now correctly feed through on your bank feeds. These pesky transactions tried to hide in the deep brush, but our new release removes their camouflage bringing them into your crosshairs for categorisation. 🎯
• No one likes squished logos. That’s now fixed for bigger logos as they appear on the invoices. We also fixed the issue with a black background for transparent logos, you’ll only need to re-upload logo.

• We’ve returned our much loved Money Owed to Business and Money Business Owes reports to our dashboard. As part of Building a Better Ember this first release brings these figures to life on your new dashboard while still linking to our original reports. Fixes 🔧

• A bug stopping some Corporation Tax obligation payments from showing on Corporation Tax returns, stopping users marking them as complete. Now you’re free to mark them done, knowing you’ve kept the taxman happy.

This update is a significant part of the foundational work we’ve been doing to improve your experience with Ember. Your feedback has been invaluable, guiding us to create a smoother and more intuitive invoicing process. Here’s what you can look forward to:

• Effortless editing and resending: Quickly make changes and resend invoices with ease.
• Email preview: See exactly what your clients will receive before you hit send.
• Simplified filtering: Easily sort through your invoices to find what you need, faster.
• Enhanced client management: Easily search for clients.

These improvements were designed to simplify your ongoing financial tasks, making the invoicing process easier and more efficient so you can focus more on what you do best!

We deeply appreciate the feedback and suggestions you’ve shared with us. We’ve heard your requests for many features, including but not limited to:

• Recurring invoices: Automate your invoicing process to save even more time.
• Customisable emails: Personalise your communications with clients to reflect your brand.
• Ability to send invoices to multiple recipients: Streamline your invoicing process for clients with multiple points of contact.
• Discounts: Adding discounts or special offers to invoices or line items.

While these features are not included in the upcoming release, please rest assured that we are committed to continually improve Ember based on your needs. Stay tuned as we will be incorporating these enhancements in future updates.

Hi there, I’m Aaron 👋 — alongside Dan, I co-founded Ember back in 2019 on a mission to help liberate business owners from the burden of accounting and tax.

Following our recent £5 million investment, I wanted to share with you, the people we are building Ember for, our vision for the future, where we currently are on our journey and a little bit about some of the exciting things we have in store for you over the next 12 months. 🚀

Building a Better Ember

Since launching Ember back in 2020, we have had the privilege of helping thousands of micro-businesses navigate their financial obligations.

Over the last couple of years, we’ve really taken aback by how popular Ember has proven to be with so many businesses.

Throughout that time, we’ve learned so much about the challenges you face and how we, at Ember can help solve them.

About 12 months ago, it became clear that to build the future you deserve, we needed to level up our infrastructure and rebuild Ember from the ground up with these learnings in mind.

Getting this right has been our core strategic focus over the last year, and while we still have a little bit to go, I couldn’t be more excited about the future this foundational change unlocks. 💪

What This Means for You

Over the last six months, you’ll have noticed we’ve updated our Dashboard, Transaction Management flow, My Tasks section, and Reports. Over the next month, you should expect to notice similar updates to our Invoicing and Onboarding flows, and by the end of the year, you should expect to have seen updates to every single aspect of the system.

With each of these updates, while you’ll likely notice some improvements to our UI, the core way in which you experience the features will remain largely the same.

The majority of the work we’re doing at the moment is work you won’t see — it’s mostly happening under the hood, and it’s intended to put us in a position that allows us to deliver much greater value to you over time.

Today, we are in the closing phases of this transition that will set us up for success in the future and having just secured a further £5 million in funding, we have never been in a better position to deliver on our mission and the future you deserve. 🌅

Following the journey

We couldn’t be more excited about what’s to come over the next few years, and we’re incredibly grateful to have so many amazing businesses onboard for the journey.

Our promise to you is that throughout this journey, we will be open with you and provide you with a clear line of sight about what’s on the horizon.

To provide this visibility, we are also sharing two new spaces with you today:

1. Firstly, we’re making our roadmap public to give you visibility on some of the bigger projects we have on the horizon.
2. Secondly, we’ll be launching our news site and section within Intercom to keep you posted on all of the new things, big and small, that have recently shipped and are ready to use.

Improvements ✨

• You can now type custom dates directly into report date pickers without having to scroll, making running reports to any date range you wish easier and quicker.
• Viewing your reports from Mobile? Well, now you can be sure not to miss our ‘written by experts’ help content, which has been made more prominent at the top of each screen.

Fixes 🔧

• We recently added Dates to Accounts and VAT Tasks to help in identifying them. This fix fixed an edge case on Accounts Task dates that started and ended in the same calendar month.
